This bungalow-style
house has a cross-gable from front to back. The rafter ends are visible. The back dormer
was added and covers a sunroom both upper and lower levels. It has a spacious front
screened porch. The top part of the house has wooden shingles while the bottom is stucco
to the ground line.
Originally
constructed as a carriage house by a Dr. Yates, next-door neighbor Andre Steketee bought
the "barn" in 1918 and converted it to a house. His son George Steketee bought
the house in 1921 and remodeled it, putting on an east side and south side addition. The
Steketees owned the home until 1966. The Steketee family were prominent dry goods
merchants in Holland.
